" Laura was my doula for the birth of my first baby. I had an extremely long labor (57 hours) and fairly difficult delivery. Laura was an absolute God-send for me and my family. She was very helpful and had suggestions for positions I might like to try to ease the labor pain, reminding me to be conscious of my breathing, suggesting getting into the tub, using my yoga ball, reminding me to drink enough water…(This all sounds simple, but believe me, it’s hard to think of these things in the middle of labor!)

Laura was very patient and encouraging through the whole process, making sure I had everything I needed and that I felt comfortable and supported, physically and emotionally. She was also very in tune with my family’s needs as well and was very careful not to be in the way but also be present and available for anything that was needed.

Honestly, at first my mother (who was in the room with me) didn’t totally understand why I wanted to hire a doula at all. She thought perhaps a doula would be doing things that she wanted to or was supposed to do. After delivery, the moment Laura left, I turned to my mom and asked her, “Wasn’t she amazing?” She looked at me and said, “I seriously don’t know how we would have been able to do that without her.” I am a tall woman, 6ft. My mom and sisters are not. Laura had the strength and endurance to provide the physical comfort I needed during my labor, including massage and pressure. Pressure was HUGE for me, as I hear it is for a lot of laboring women. She was also such an emotional support for me. With a labor as long as mine, my coaches needed to take shifts so they could rest and also be with me the whole time. Laura has such a gentle demeanor, but let me tell you, she is strong! She somehow knew just when to be quiet, when to offer much-needed words of encouragement, when to step back and let my family be with me, and even when to lighten the mood and joke around.

After my little one arrived, I had some issues delivering my placenta. Laura stayed right by my side, holding my hand, and talking me through the pain of the issue/procedure. I’m getting a little choked up thinking of it now actually. She stayed absolutely calm and was a huge comfort to me during the pretty gruesome event. After everything was over, Laura stayed to make sure my baby, family, and I were all settled and doing okay and then quietly slipped away.

I have and will recommend Laura to anyone I can. I cannot give her a higher endorsement. She was absolutely phenomenal. I will definitely hire her again to be my doula and birthing coach if I have more children. "

"Although it certainly wasn't what I was picturing (but is any birth according to "plan"?) my birth experience is sacred. I had no idea that 23 hours of stress could be so beautiful at the end of the day. I loved how calm and flexible you were. You really kept in mind that even though I tried to do things a certain way, at the end of the day you helped me make difficult decisions and giving me "permission" to stick with my ultimate plan of being flexible and having a healthy baby. This helped me not feel ashamed at asking for pain meds - you fully supported me and I needed that approval. Just knowing you were always nearby, could relieve my partner when necessary and just the right touch or cool compress made a world of difference when I felt like I was locked inside my body and could barely communicate. I'm so grateful you were with us! You'll always be a huge part of my memory of my birth. I really don't think we would have had the outcome we did without you."

" Laura became so much more than a doula to me. She became a memorable part of my pregnancy and birth of my baby boy. Laura is genuine and caring which was apparent right away. She is educated and dedicated to her doula business. Our personalities were a match the support I received was perfect for my needs as a single mom. My labor was nearly two days and Laura was an essential part of helping manage my labor pain and keep me focused. I hope Laura and I stay in touch because I will always remember her when I remember the day my beautiful son came into my life. "

" Choosing to have Laura as our doula for our birth was one of the best decisions we could have made. I knew I wanted to do a home birth, and I was lucky enough to get to know Laura throughout my visits at Mother to Mother Midwifery. When I decided to seek out a doula, it was a very natural and easy pick to go with Laura since I already knew her well enough to know that our personality types meshed well. On the night of the birth, having Laura there was a lifesaver. Laura helped keep us from panicking and really supported me during the early stages of the labor. She and my husband worked really well together, and it definitely put us at ease knowing that we had someone there to act as an emotional support. Laura's calm and kind nature was an ideal addition to our birthing team, and I would strongly recommend her to anyone who is considering using a doula at their birth! "

"When I met with Laura, my first impression was of how warm and caring she was. She also was clearly passionate about her work and seemed to have a great deal of respect for women and what our bodies are capable of accomplishing. I felt extremely comfortable with her as she listened to me discuss all my concerns and hopes for my birth. I had experienced back labor with my first birth, and this one was the same. Laura showed my husband how to effectively apply counter-pressure to my lower back, and I was grateful to have two sets of hands doing this. Throughout everything, Laura continued to praise and encourage me, and I gained strength from hearing her reassurances that I was doing well. Thanks to my amazing team of care providers, I was able to get my unmedicated VBAC. I am so glad that I had Laura at my side, and I would not change a thing about how I prepared for my birth. It was also wonderful seeing Laura for my postpartum visit and having her hold my newborn."
