"We have a secret in our culture, and it's not that birth is painful, it's that women are strong." -Laura Stavoe Harm

>> As your doula:

I will meet with you and your partner for two prenatal visits. This is the time where we discuss what your goals are for your birth. It is a chance for us to get to know each other, and a time for me to learn more about you so that I can personalize the kind of support you may need. We will discuss comfort measures, labor positions, relaxation techniques and options for childbirth education classes. We will discuss any concerns, fears or hopes you or your partner have for your birthing time. We will also talk about when and how to best contact me when you are going into labor.

I will be available for phone, email and text support throughout your pregnancy and I consider my on-call period to be 37-42 weeks. When it is time to have your baby, I will first provide support from afar by text or phone until you are ready for me to join you. Oftentimes, I meet you at your home and can help decide when may be the best time to leave for the hospital or birth center. Once I meet you in labor, I stay with you until the birth of your baby providing comfort, informational support and encouragement. It's hard to succinctly describe the many things a doula does in labor but my most important goal is to provide a safe bubble for both parents so they remember this life changing event in a positive light. After your baby is born I will stay with you for up to two hours to provide breastfeeding support and lots of love.

Within two weeks of your birth, we will have a postpartum visit to discuss your experience. I'll assist with breastfeeding and provide community resources for postpartum support if necessary. More than likely it will simply be a time for us to reconnect, talk about your birth and a chance for all of us to admire your beautiful baby!

The total fee for my services as your doula is $900.

$450 is due at the signing of contract and the remaining balance is due at 38 weeks.

I believe everyone who desires a doula at their birth should have one and I am occasionally able to work on a sliding scale if necessary. If $900 is cost prohibitive for you, please contact me and I will be happy to put you in touch with doulas who are a better fit for your budget. San Diego is full of loving doulas at every price and there really is a doula out there for every family!

>> Meet my back up

Every great doula needs a great backup. Though very rarely used, it is essential to have a good team in place in case I can't make it to your birth. These two amazing women are complimentary to me in experience, philosophy and temperament.
